The History of Katy Days

In 1870, the first Missouri-Kansas-Texas (MK&T) train rolled into a newly established town in southeast Kansas—Parsons. This railroad would come to be known as the Katy, shaping the town’s identity and future. Today, more than 150 years later, Parsons proudly celebrates its rich railroad heritage with the annual Katy Days Festival.

Held every Memorial Day weekend, Katy Days is a beloved tradition that brings the community together to honor its history while enjoying a weekend full of activities. The festival features live music, delicious food, family-friendly entertainment, arts and crafts vendors, a parade, historical reenactments, and railroad-themed attractions. Attendees can participate in train-related exhibits, enjoy classic cars and tractors, and experience a variety of games and competitions. For train enthusiasts, history lovers, and families alike, Katy Days offers something for everyone.

Adults can explore exhibits showcasing Katy Railroad memorabilia, browse unique vendor booths, and enjoy the opportunities to learn more about the impact of the railroad on Parsons and beyond.Whether you're a Parsons native or a first-time visitor, Katy Days is the perfect opportunity to reconnect with old friends, create new memories, and celebrate the enduring legacy of the Katy Railroad in a town that still embraces its historic roots.
